UNESCO CHURCHES IN SOLEA REGION – 2 CHURCHES
As Cyprus is a country with predominantly Christian Orthodox faith, there are a great number of sacred Byzantine monuments in the country and a rich religious history. On our excursion, we explore two of the UNESCO World Heritage sites listed churches in Limassol’s Solea region.
Our special tour begins with a visit to the church of Ayios Nikolaos tis Stegis, in Kakopetria, in the central area of the scenically mountainous Troodos. The church is perched on the west bank of the river Klarios/Karkotis and is the only surviving katholicon (monastery church) of an 11th-century Byzantine monastery.
Also situated in the narrow and fertile valley of the river Klarios/Karkotis is the awe-inspiring church of Panagia Podithou. It is one of four painted churches in the charming village of Galata.
Both churches have historical and artistic significance and are decorated with paintings and religious icons that date back centuries. In total, there are 10 beautifully preserved churches included in Cyprus’s UNESCO list.

Explore Kakopetria
Our excursion ends where it began, in the picturesque village of Kakopetria. The popular Troodos mountain range summer resort offers stunning views of the beautiful fragrant pine forests that stretch across the valley. In the old quarter, you can explore the narrow cobblestone alleyways at your leisure.
The protected heritage site also features restored two-storey houses that enhance the village’s charming character.
