DRINK AND EAT LIKE A LOCAL
The best way to fully immerse yourself in the history, heritage, culture and charm of a country is via its distinctive cuisine. When in Volos, it’s easy to drink and eat like a local – and if you’re going to do it, you may as well do it properly! Our gastronomic outing offers you an opportunity to sample and enjoy a totally authentic Greek experience.
The locals of Volos celebrate a unique tradition known as ‘tsipouradiko’, which involves drinking the quintessential Greek spirit tsipouro with a special seafood meze accompaniment. The ritual dates back to the 1920s when cafes and bars served alcoholic beverages to customers for the first time.
Sip a glass of the spirit as you eat the delicious fresh grilled octopus that is severed with a garnish. Tradition dictates that you order another glass of the potent, 45% proof ouzo-like tsipouro, and tuck into a platter of a different tasty snack. If you’re following the rules, you will need to order again to keep up with the locals.
