We’ve made it to the iconic blue and white streets
As soon as Santorini came into view, you could feel the excitement onboard. Everyone rushed out to get that magical first glimpse of those iconic white houses perched on top of the volcanic rocks. It’s such a special place, and we couldn’t wait for our guests to get stuck in exploring it.
Something we love about Santorini is how diverse the island is. The famous villages are, of course, real crowd pleasers. But there is so much more to see and do.
Because it was formed by a volcanic eruption, the landscape is unusual (and beautiful, of course). It’s like the surface of the moon. One of the excursions is to its thermal pools on the coastline, which is a unique experience for those wanting to immerse themselves in Santorini’s natural side.
Getting the village viewpoints
We’ve missed Fira and Oia so much there was only one thing for it – to take part in the excursion walking from one to the next. It’s the best way to get up close and personal to the island, and there are plenty of surprises along the way. The wildflowers and butterflies, for one. They were just coming out in the spring sunshine – in a few months they will be carpeting the hills. We can’t wait to come back later in the season when they’re in full bloom.
Scenery for days
There’s a reason why Santorini is a social media star. It’s beautiful, and not just because of the iconic blue and white buildings. This year, we’ve added a few more excursions that give an even more authentic glimpse into life on Santorini.
Today, some of our guests have made the trip up to Pyrgos - the highest village on Santorini and a real insider’s hidden gem. The views across the islands fan-flippin'-tastic. But our favourite part is that this place, which lots of tourists don’t know about, gives our guests a real taste of Greek island life. We spotted coffee shops buzzing with locals and quiet monasteries tucked away down cobblestone alleys.
And wine, of course. Lots of sweet Greek wine.
