A Bastion of History
Your next stop will be Philippi, one of the most interesting ancient cities in western Europe due to its biblical and historical connections. In ancient times, the city was known as Crenides but was later renamed after King Philip II of Macedonia – father of Alexander the Great – who conquered the region in order to acquire the nearby gold mines.
It was also here where Mark Antony and Octavian Augustus defeated Brutus and Cassius, the assassins of Julius Caesar. History buffs will not want to miss this tour.
