HIGHLIGHTS OF THESSALONIKI
As Greece’s second-largest city, Thessaloniki is also a central point that offers access to all the delights of mainland Greece. The port city oozes charm, history and culture, and boasts a plethora of interesting and intriguing highlights that are well worth exploring.
Situated in a prime spot on the seafront promenade is Thessaloniki’s famous White Tower. The monument was once a Byzantine fortification and features a display of beautiful religious icons and artifacts. From the rooftop, you can enjoy stunning views over the city and the shimmering sea below.
Our specialist guide will then show you the Museum of Byzantine Culture where you will discover hundreds of rare and unique exhibits that date back to the early Christian period. Sculptures, mosaics, embroidered fabrics and painted tombs are amongst the historic artifacts on display.
We journey on, passing the International Trade Fair grounds and the Aristotelian University, en route to the Heptapyrgion (or the Fortress of Seven Towers). The Heptapyrgion citadel offers a spectacular view of Mount Olympus, the Thermaic Gulf and the city.
